Heh, thanks.

I try to follow that whole "say something constructive or shut up" thing. Oh, and even though he does say some weird stuff, The Batlord is one of my favourite members on here.

First of all, it sounds again like you're just mad that somebody disagreed with you. What's the point of being on a site dedicated to musical discussion if you're going to get offended anytime anyone bashes a band you like? This is your problem, not mine. Secondly, my ears told me. I was dubious at first, but they had some good arguments. STP may have been a good enough band to be able to have their own personality, which they developed much more on later albums, but on Core especially you can totally hear them ripping off Pearl Jam.

Funny, i was going to mention Bob too.

@Batlord

those 2 songs don't sound alike , STP and Pearl jam are a little similar but not enough to say STP copied Pearl jam or vice versa.

Alot of bands in the 90's had a similar vibe yet managed to be different.

Except that Stone Temple Pilots were a band that formed in 1985 in Los Angeles, years before Pearl Jam ever recorded anything, and then released a "little similar" sounding album a little over a year after Pearl Jam released Ten. In a world previously ruled by hair bands where I wouldn't expect STP to have sounded anything like they did when they put out their debut, I find that a little odd.

Especially considering that this is what they sounded like before Core:

This thread got suddenly interesting.

Quick two cents, although I'd go as far as saying I think RealTalk is a black supremacist, she's not going to bother.
In fact I can guarantee she'll never even be in this thread, she has her views, her opinions and sticks to them regardless of what other people think which has to be respected I guess.

I want to take this time to actually quickly evaluate myself. Sorry for being a dick Music Banter. I am who I am, I hope that you don't take my moaning, bitching and drunken aggression to heart because honestly it'd be a great loss to me (this will sound pathetic) if I didn't have this place. I don't think I appreciate it and its members enough. Sorry guys....

Also, it may be unpopular but I think YorkeDaddy is a good guy.

P.S. FPK in my opinion is one of the most hilarious internet people I've ever encountered.

Yeah I think YorkDaddy is a good guy too. Just a bit of a douche at times, like the rest of us. Though most of us mask our douchebaggery a little better than he does.

@Batlord

Maybe it influenced it, do you remember 'low self steem' by offspring? that song was basically a rip off of teen spirit which was a rip off of the Pixies song dynamics (Loud, quiet, loud)

More than crediting a single artist i think this influence comes from the decade and the music movement in that decade in this case the 90's

like, music from the 70's all sound alike, same as music from other decades and they all kinda reflect the mental state we had at that time.

'creep' by STP or even the radiohead one are a reflection on the 90's and Pearl jam was just another band in that 90's movement which honestly i never liked much except from this song.

I think maybe you're giving Pearl jam too much credit cause i don't think STP sounds like them at all.

I think if STP was copying Pearl Jam, STP would have sucked a lot harder. (kidding).

Pearl Jam was using a sound they liked. STP was way all over the map, so did they copy people? Probably. But they were also using a lot of influences. I don't think they were nearly as bad as people hate on them for being. (except the song Jans just liked, that was terrible).
