Well, I'd say The Division Bell was quite a decent release. For an album released in 1994, they had the Floyd touch left in them. It definitely was worth it in my opinion.

I like the Division Bell, it is probably the last PF album ever going to be released, unless some rumours about Gilmour and Waters getting together again are just pure fiction. I will quote something Boo Boo said in another thread, "PF were more about making soundscapes than just normal songs.", kind of sums up how I feel about them too. They are simply unique in my musical experience, and even an average album by them is still pretty damn good.

Even though 'The Division Bell' is not a particulary great album, in terms of the Floyd asthetic it is far more tolerable than the pop music of AMLOR. 'Yet Another Movie' and 'Sorrow' are nevertheless very good tracks from AMLOR.

I have reviewed the discography and found that without question Dark Side and Animals are my favorites.

Most of all I'd like to thank jackhammer for putting this together. Great thread, I love all the discography threads, especially when I love the band as much as I do Floyd. Reviewing their albums over the last two weeks was truly a delight.

Overall I'd rank them as such:

1. Darkside of the Moon - Near Perfection
2. Animals - Haha Charade you are
3. Wish You Were Here - Most melodic and musically sound album
4. Meddle - Brilliant at moments but lackluster at others. At a time my favorite of theirs. Fearless is flawless.
5. The Wall - No sure why Urban and Jack hate this one; a bit over rated maybe, but a ton of great songs and a brilliant story.
6. Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Syd Barrett had already lost it and it hurt this album. Great music, but I am left wonderinf what if.
7. Atom Heart Mother - Overlooked album, very raw, but very good.
8. Saucer Full OF Secrets - This one is great, but has no structure or order, this band could have been the greatest ever. God dammit Syd.
9. A Momentary Lapse of Reason - Not really like a Pink Floyd Album when i hear it but I like it.
10. Obscured by Clouds - Probably the best of their soundtrack work.

Thanks again hammer.

Perhaps one of the greatest produced albums and greatest use of special effects. People are going to kill me for saying this, but I can't rate it as their best album. I used to despise it because I didn't like the useless songs and disliked 'Gig', 'Money', 'Us And Them', but eventually loved it all. Still hate 'Any Colour You Like' though. They borrowed some stuff from previous albums so people look down on their other stuff because they hear this first.

So fricking amazing. Water's at his lyrical peak but they don't sacrifice words for music either. Features my favorite solo ever (Dogs) and Wright is in top form, and it contains some of the most angry lyrics...not your typical progressive rock album. This seems to be a short album but each of the three main songs are amazing and worth every second of the album.

I don't like 'Welcome to The Machine' or 'Have A Cigar'. 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond I-V' has moments where I am astounded by the sound they created. 'Wish You Were Here' is very good, but the other half of 'Diamond' underwhelming compared to the first part. Similar to Meddle like you said, great moments but bad moments too.

Yep. Meddle is sweet.

4 god awful songs and 7 I plain don't like. The best are pretty good though. They definitly could have condensed it to 15 songs and retained most of the plot line.

This is my favorite album by PF (Animal's 2nd) but only because I worship the way they mixed cosmic psychedelia with Syd's pop melodies.

excellent thread jackhammer, beautiful reviews. this has made me want to really go backtracking into their discography

so yeah, seeing as i only own Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Animals, and Wish You Were Here (for now), my opinion may be a bit skewed as to what their best song is/album may be.

anywho, while i do agree that Money is a bit detached from the rest of the record in terms of depth, i don't find it generally being the lowest point on the cd(that goes to On the Run). i find it while not fitting in with the overall sound, it's still an enjoyable listen.

as for what my favorite songs i have to say Us and Them, Dogs, Have a Cigar, Comfortably Numb, Young Lust, Pigs, Time, Wish You Were Here, The Show Must Go On and Pigs on the Wing pts 1 and 2(short and sweet, that's why i love those last ones)

and with that what i also have, my opinion of these albums, are as follows

The Wall-the best conceptually, a finely crafted story as well as a good start as i see it for someone who's only heard their biggest singles, as this album has a number of their biggest hits

Animals-their progressive masterpiece, really showing the prog community that they've still got it and can hang with the big boys. plus Dogs makes me **** my pants

Wish You Were Here-while there was some generally good/great stuff on here, this pales in comparison musically and imo lyrically to my other Floyd records and is pretty much my least favorite

Dark Side of The Moon-to be honest, i'm having a difficult time really pinpointing what this album means to me, not only is it their most recognized and successful album financially, the way that the music speaks to is unlike much else that i've ever heard. the majestic song structures coupled with the lyrics and themes which seem to flow together and become one are so beautiful that beginning to describe it would mean tearing at my heart strings while shaking the very foundation of my soul. i'll just say that it's ****ing great .

I've given a lot of thought to it, and I have my top five.
  1. Meddle
  2. Dark Side of the Moon
  3. Obscured by Clouds
  4. Piper at the Gates of Dawn
  5. More

As you can see, I really respect their early and transitional period.

Oh fella don't put yourself out honestly. I appreciate you trying. I may be able to get it on a torrent but I don't like torrents too much.
