I was very late coming to Bob Dylan...but it was on getting Highway 61 and Bringing It All Back Home I was converted, there's so much to get your teeth into with these albums.
Most importantly though is the influence of his lyricism on my musical heroes (the Beatles, among others), even though I don't often receive the subliminal messages he is sending out. A true poet still

Meh is all I can say. Too eighties, too religious, some of the tracks are just okay but from the man who gave us some of the greatest songs ever okay is pretty disappointing. The organs and drums sound god awful, I mean this is one of Dylan's better 80s albums but that's really not saying much. I can't help but feel Dylan is washed up but given some of his albums post-90s that isn't true. Some of these tracks do have potential. Sweetheart Like You would be good if it was slightly darker and the production wasn't so bad (that goes for all the tracks.) Oh and I and I is not a Bad Brains cover, sorry!

My favourite Dylan is Freewheelin'

I actually find Dylans' work to be pretty inspiring... just slower paced than what most people are used to.

Bob Dylan is a big ****ing deal to me. His early stuff is so genius. In the earlier days, with just his acoustic guitar and harmonica, he was brilliant live, not so much in the studio. The reverse is true with his electric songs, they are really good in the studio, but not so much live. His voice is perfect for his songs. To me, it sounds stupid to sing a Bob Dylan song with a good voice. You need to have a raggedy voice that has a conviction behind it. His stuff at Newport is some of the best performances I've ever seen

Seems like he's saying he only likes Freewheelin' live.

I'm saying some of his performances on albums of certain songs is underwhelming to live versions I've seen. Bob said it himself in No Direction Home, that his best performances were rarely recorded.
