Well I'm just a dumb American but I'd rather be beholden to the nation less likely to torture and murder LGBT people, I have a hunch that Ukraine's queer community feels the same.

Visited my favorite Ukrainian restaurant Veselka recently and had, among other things, a bowl of borscht (they are donating 100% of borscht sales to help Ukraine). They are also accepting material donations, so I dropped off some socks, batteries, bandages, baby diapers and formula.

The restaurant is also partnering with Razom For Ukraine to handle donations: https://linktr.ee/RazomForUkraine

I won't argue your take on US foreign policy but I don't think anyone could have prevented Putin save maybe the Russians themselves.

In grade school, I didn't understand these geographic distances and
so if someone wanted to know the origin of my name, I'd tell them
that it was from somewhere in Russia - and then I'd get bloody hell
from my grandmother who would tell me in no uncertain terms that,
"You are not Russian - you are ooo-KRAY-n-sky!!!" followed, usually,
by a smack to the back of the head.

Either ignoring or clamping down on popular protests is literally the defining feature of his rule.

To only and always concentrate on America is America-centric narcissism. Did America make Russia invade Ukraine? Did America make Russia invade Georgia? Did America make Russia bomb Chechnya into powder? Perhaps it's possible for two countries to be unscrupulous imperialists who are never going to change until they no longer exist.
