Euthanasia or assisted suicide
So we had an assisted suicide thread that apparently didn't go so well because it was closed, but on the occasion of Spain legalizing euthanasia, let's try to open up that can of worms again!
I take it the vast majority of people on this forum are not religious so I don't think this is a contentious issue. According to wiki, currently there are only 6 countries in the world (and Western Australia) who allow active euthanasia: Netherlands, Belgium, Colombia, Luxembourg, Canada and Spain. I'm all for it and hope that some time soon, Croatia will also pass legislation allowing death with dignity. This should and hopefully one day will be regarded as a basic human right. I would certainly like the option, if my quality of life degraded to the point where I considered life not worth living anymore.

I don't understand the religious arguments against it. Logically the only reason suicide is a sin is because God saw it as a potential exploit of the system. You shouldn't be able to just kill yourself and get to heaven before anybody else. You can't opt out of playing his ****ed up little game.
According to them, God is love. He's just a big teddy bear. So why would such a nice man get all anal about an 80 year old with terminal cancer offing himself? Even if he thinks suicides are cheating, he wouldnt be such a hardliner on it. He's a nice guy after all. He'll let grandpa through. Especially if you just ask him: Dear God, please allow grandpa to kill himself. Cordially, [your name] ^^ just pray these words and he'll know to put grandpapa in the exceptions list. maybe hold a crisp benjamin in your hand as you do it, to sweeten the deal. |
