I'd probably get the vaccine if they didn't accompany them with those waivers. They know there could be long-term effects that they simply haven't caught in existing data, so they don't want to be sued if it turns out "science" has more unplanned casualties than expected.

Yeah, it's sooo true that one vaccination doesn't make a huge difference.
It's like traffic or voting. Just your little car or your little vote or any one thing that you do is so insignificant. It's so true about little ol' me! |

@jwb by the way, collective reasoning does apply. I realise I'm out of my depth with virology, but in any system large enough for statistics to be relevant, there's a gap between individual and collective laws. Does just me getting vaccinated make a difference? No, or at least the chance is tiny. Does it make a difference if everyone like me doesn't get vaccinated? Maybe, I think it's fair to say probably. Collective phenomena only work if almost everyone complies, and I think corona is too serious to make yourself an exception. So in a sense I don't think my tiny contribution one way is important, I'm concerned that my contribution in the opposite way would be, by some cumulative effect which I can't make a judgement of because I have no idea how this all works

I actually don't understand why everyone is getting so het up about jwb's opinion/stance on this. It hasn't changed from day one. Wasn't he the one who declared he was going visiting his relations directly after a government/CDC/Fauci warning not to travel at Thanksgiving? Didn't he make it clear he did not give a **** what consequences his actions had? Do we believe that even if American deaths were still steadily climbing, unopposed, as in the Trump administration's last months, he would even consider getting a vaccine or wearing a mask? So why are we surprised that this is his attitude when - in his view - things are "better" and "safer" now?
Do you really ever expect this selfish ******* to change? To think of anyone else but himself? If so, good luck, and would you like to buy this bridge? Or I can put you in touch with this Nigerian Prince... jwb's attitude is old now, and he's never going to change. It's pointless trying to explain to him how ridiculous his take on this is. The dude does not get it, he does not WANT to get it. I assume he's posting now just for trolls and drama, and to get people upset. It would be better if everyone ignored instead of feeding him.

Okay but we're not - or at least I'm not - comparing the two, saying one is better or worse than the other. I'm just saying responding to jwb's "no vaccine for me, I don't need it" spiel is just a waste of time, as he clearly has no intention of debating it and has his mind made up. Look at his responses to you and rostasi; they just reiterate the same mantra over and over again. He may be smart - he certainly has demonstrated that before now - but on this issue he seems to be as ignorant as a MAGA with chronic Jesus syndrome.
