Yes and Pink Floyd were bigger reasons but that’s a good thing. One approach plays out and a new one in born. Doesn’t mean one’s bad. For everything there is a season. To listen to punk at the exclusion of yacht rock or prog is very different than playing punk at the inclusion of other genres. As fans we have to luxury to enjoy both. Sonic Youth is basically the Pink Floyd extension of the Ramones and Bikini Kill is to Sonic Youth what the Eagles were to the Beatles.

Dude - they’re right in the same family as no limit.

I don't quite get the comparison and I don't claim to be any sort of expert on rock music I'm just saying... Post any song by them that you think is great and unique cause I'm just not hearing it myself

I watched the whole concert on VOD last night/this afternoon and it was superb. I love the fact they got Vince Gill in, word is they also had Bob Seger (who co-wrote "Heartache Tonight" drop by at one point - though not at that concert - and the touching tribute Deacon made to his dad, plus the way the band all asked everyone to welcome him, was just spot on. They also, at one point, showed a huge photo of Glenn after Deacon had played. Heart strings were throbbing I can tell you.

That, to me, is bull. Prog rock is why punk had to happen. The Eagles and country rock in general is just something some people don't get or like; punk didn't affect them in the least (mostly being a British phenomenon - yeah yeah I know New York Dolls yadda yadda but Sex Pistols) - country rock didn't die at the hands of punk like prog rock, which had grown like a monster on its own excesses and had to be put down. Read any history of either and you'll find the main targets for punk anger are Pink Floyd, Yes, ELP and Genesis.

@jwb - nobody is saying The Eagles wrote unique songs, but at a time when country and rock were pretty much separate they melded the two and crossed the boundary, uniting fans of each genre and also pulling in basic mainstream listeners who had just heard their stuff on the radio. There's a reason why Hotel California went TWENTY-SIX TIMES platinum and has sold over 32 million units worldwide.

Also, shout out to The Outlaws, who don't get near enough praise as they should.

Funny you say that cause every hip hop sound I click on sounds like hip hop and every Punk song I click on sounds Punk. Funny how that happens.

Eagles didn't try to reinvent the wheel, they just made it more fun rolling with it.

absolute ****ing bull****. Bikini Kill didn't have much to do with Sonic Youth anyway; the main riot grrrl band strongly influenced by SY is Sleater-Kinney

sure, I realise how prog led to punk. But if we're not looking at genres, just the particular band, the Eagles stood for a lot of the things punk tried to get rid of; they were watered-down, complacent and overly conventional. I don't know much of their music though, so this is definitely prejudiced

True, as far as it goes, but so did a whole lot of other bands, such as CSNY, Doobies, AWB and The Carpenters. None of these have been linked with the emergence of punk, and let's be fair, one YouTube post holds very little weight in the court of public opinion. You can certainly say a punk might have worn a T-Shirt with "I HATE EAGLES" (hoping that no predatory birds in the area would take offence and attack him!) but I have literally never heard the band mentioned in the same breath as punk.

Anyway, punks can kiss my ass: Eagles rule, says the old balding guy from the unfashionable country with the questionable taste in music and giving not one single flying **** who thinks so.

I don't know those other bands you mention, but the Eagles to me have kind of a proto-buttrock vibe that CSNY has not; they're sublime. That's obvious prejudice though because I happen to love CSNY, but I do think they're much better and more sophisticated. And sure, I'm not taking that one youtube comment very seriously.
Anyway, cheers to not giving a ****, that's the spirit!
