Activists have come along way since Occupy but they can't make up for a fossilized labor movement.

Maybe, I guess I'm more optimistic than that. It won't look like the early 1900s. But the Right doing an about face on a good deal of their economic policies, and Ted Cruz saying "we should be the party of working people" signals good things from where I sit.

Yeah but that's what I mean. Neoliberalism gave the Democrats an option during the Reagan era. And it's giving way to a more robust Left. I don't think the New Democrats had that plan. But it is how it went. Anything that drives society towards Capitalism's end - even if its Capitalism eating itself - should be considered good by the Left, no?

Wait I didn't read the rest of this so maybe I'm misunderstanding but you think Ted Cruz cares about the working people?
Oh wait you mean he sees them as a factor/threat to be taken seriously? That does sound optimistic to me but I hope you're right

I'd be more optimistic if there weren't so many working class white dip****s who still eat that **** up. The working class remains divided by rat****ers like Cruz and Donald Trump and I don't see that problem being solved any time soon. We need those corn fed yokels to get their heads out of their asses.

True, it goes both ways though. The progressive left and more Conservative parts of the working class both need to understand that they have a common goal and a common enemy

Doesn't matter if they have a common enemy or not. Most people are single-issue voters. Hell, you can't even get people who are only moderately different politically to see eye-to-eye on abortion because people draw a line in the sand on that.

They're not as important. Some loud-mouthed pinkhair or cowboy screaming about CRT or Jesus both doesn't read policy, and needs to feel like an expert so they dig in on cultural issues where their gut is enough of a source to cite from.

But you can't eat gun rights, or adding the X to latino. Being able to pay the bills, and feed your kids, and keep the lights on is more important that people's feelings. In fact people's feelings are worse than useless. They're a distraction that benefits the oligarchy.

Economics drives social issues though. Economically disadvantaged whites on average care more about abortion than economically stable whites because that economic insecurity makes them want to lash out at potential enemies and the rich whites swoop in with distractions like abortion to give them an enemy that doesn't threaten the status quo.
