Just wow.

I don't know if we have to wait until January or the 14th of December for this nightmare to be over.
That’s pre-civil war type **** right there.

I'm with you, addidasss, very pleased that the Supreme Court made such a clear dismissal of the Texas case.

The actual contesting of the election may stop on Dec 14, but all the dynamics and players that brought about these crazy lawsuits are still in place, so the fight, perhaps disguised as something else, will go on for a long time I think.

Back before the election, the GOP announced that their party platform, their only firm policy was loyalty to Trump. As many people see it, the Texas case showed that 17 Republican states and 126 Republican senators were prepared to take that attitude to the point of overturning American democracy. That's going to cast a long shadow and suggests that Biden will struggle to find the co-operation, the coming together that he hopes for.

It's a paradox of democracies that, to be democratic, they must allow parties to run who would abandon democracy if elected. In Western Europe, with the small showing of parties like the communists in multi-party races, that's usually just an academic point. How is the US going to be, though, with two parties only, one of which appears to be abandoning the principles of democracy?!

Boom!
Please don't have faith in the American system. This culture war **** is something the courts trend liberal with but look at what they do with anything involving worker or corporate rights. The liberal status quo are conservative as **** when it comes to siding with the elites on economic issues and are an enemy of the people and have been for years.

If that's their thinking, I don't know whether to call it cynical or stupid. What's it like? Saying " Yeah, I went along with the bank robbery because I knew it would fail" Something like that, isn't it?

Because they were elected by the same process and would seemingly want to continue living a democracy unless they figure they’d do better in a dictatorship?

For a huge chunk of congress to sign on to not recognizing our democratic process is alarming af.

I’m not saying it will amount to anything but it reminds of **** you read in a history book before something crazy happens.

If Trump won again would it be crazy for Americans not to recognize his win as legit?

I definitely don’t think the election was rigged but it was and that comes out 20 years down the road I would be grateful to those that rigged it.

I think the difference between the conservative and liberal forces on the Supreme court, as far as I can tell, boils down to, do you think the Supreme court should shape public policy or not. The conservatives think it should be left to the states/Congress, the liberals tend to think the SC should intervene more.

But when it comes to interpreting the letter of the law, as we saw now in the Texas lawsuit case, they are all competent enough to read the constitution, which the Republican legal think tank obviously isn't.

So that's what I have faith in.

What I don't have faith in is the U.S. as a socially progressive country, because it has never been one and doesn't look like it will become one any time soon. It's founded on selfish principles, and has therefore become the perfect breeding ground for unchecked capitalism (for example, I still can't believe that such a basic protection of workers rights as the limitation of weekly working hours is apparently non-existent).

I've long ago stopped thinking of the U.S. as anything to aspire to. I'll stick to Europe thanks.

Think you missed out the word "if" there between "was rigged but" and "it was". Small word but important.

Did anyone see this crazy Texas governor or senator or rep or whatever the hell he is, actually advocating secession?????? Civil War Part II?

Also, I love this!

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to take part in Donald Trump and the Republican Party of the United State's coup attempt despite a final round of frivolous unicorn poop and pixie dust briefs from, including and I am not making this up, "New California State" and "New Nevada State." (Alternately, "New Nevada Sate" because spelling is optional in the new civil war.)
