If you go into it with a lack of understanding or sympathy towards the kid in that situation and care more about being respected as an authority over him, do you really deserve the respect?

I wouldn't have that kind of patience either tbf.

Also factor in what ever bs the dad could be feeding the kid behind their back. Most divorced people I've known have tried to use the kid in some way to hurt the other parent. It's disgusting.

My possibly controversial take is that I don't think mentally ill, unstable or immature people should have kids.
