Odds that Russia has something on Trump?

Even before yesterday's stunning announcement, Trump has spent his entire presidency sticking up for Putin, heaping praise on Putin, refusing to say anything negative about Putin, having 2 hour closed door meeting with Putin and not briefing his top intelligence people, not making a transcript of the meeting, and pushing back against additional sanctions against Russia for their aggressive actions and human rights violations in places like Georgia and Crimea, not to mention back in Russia, where journalists or ex-government officials who speak out against Putin are routinely killed during "robberies" or poisoned to death.

Now he's inviting the former KGB agent, and most likely a huge entourage of other KGB agents, to Washington just prior to the mid-term elections.

Ever since he was elected rumors have swirled that Russia has video and/or tapes of Trump in extremely compromising positions, that if made public, would at the very least hurt him with his evangelical and female bases.

So, what do you think the odds are that Putin does indeed have "something" on Trump, and that would explain his actions (or lack of actions) against the US's largest global enemy?

Frownland 07-20-2018 09:53 AM

Read The Art of the Deal.

Trump thinks that Putin is a schmuck. The thief thinks that everybody steals.

Also a 25% chance of shady international business deals.

Cuthbert 07-20-2018 09:54 AM

Obsessed.

Trollheart 07-20-2018 10:15 AM

Odds of Chula making at least one more thread with Trump or Putin in the title?

Exo 07-20-2018 10:54 AM

I think there's definitely something. Trump doesn't heap praise on many people other than himself. The ones he does either has something he wants or has something he doesn't want people to know about.

Can we have this as the Trump thread now then? If guys overstep the mark just ban them.

Then we can get back to posting actual news in the news thread instead of discussing Trump all the time.

Cuthbert 07-20-2018 12:01 PM

OK Chula will continue to use the news thread as his Trump thread.

Trollheart 07-20-2018 01:08 PM

Would it help if we made a thread called the Donald T. Rump thread?

The Batlord 07-20-2018 01:11 PM

What about The Ivanka Trump Thread where we post sexy pics and news stories about her and her family?

grindy 07-20-2018 01:11 PM

Yes.

Spoiler for :
No.

Chula Vista 07-20-2018 01:14 PM

Current Events
Trump is the current President
Trump's last week (current) has been a PR nightmare.

What should we be posting about here? "Iowa farmer grows the largest watermelon on record"?

YorkeDaddy 07-20-2018 01:31 PM

When’s the last time you guys think big D and Melania had sex? Gotta be years right? I mean he is just plain vile to even look at

Frownland 07-20-2018 01:34 PM

Melania is a Russian spy.

The Batlord 07-20-2018 01:35 PM

I imagine he hasn't looked at her since Ivanka turned 15.

Did you see her press conference earlier today where tried to clarify that she misspoke during her wedding vows?

Trying to turn Melania into a political figure is a seriously concerning move for the Trump administration. It reeks of quasi-monarchy which could easily lead to fasc...oh wait I forgot that we always gave the first lady an unreasonable amount of attention.

"Queen Melania" isn't bad tbh.

^ I quite like the special role that American First Ladies play, and the old-fashioned courtesy with which they are usually treated by the media. Is Melania being treated so differently from previous incumbants?
IMO, with Trump the worry quasi-monarchy bit has been the handing out positions of power to King Trump's children, irrespective of their experience or aptitude. That's a significant shift from meritocracy to nepotism, which is def a characteristic of dictatorships.

Ivanka Trump, official title: Advisor to President:-

Spoiler for historical precedents:
Over the years, more than a dozen children have worked for presidential fathers. Most have been low-level secretaries, or in some cases campaign operatives, said presidential historian Joshua Kendall, author of First Dads: Parenting And Politics From George Washington to Barack Obama.

Ivanka Trump is unique in that she is a woman with high-level influence.

Jared Trump, official title: Senior Advisor:-

Spoiler for Jared's initial job description:
Mr. Kushner arrived in the White House with an expansive portfolio. In addition to Middle East peace, he served as the president’s intermediary with Mexico, China and the Arab world.
At a senior staff meeting early in President Trump’s tenure, Reince Priebus, then the White House chief of staff, posed a simple question to Jared Kushner: What would his newly created Office of American Innovation do?

Mr. Kushner brushed him off, according to people privy to the exchange. Given that he and his top lieutenants were paid little or nothing, Mr. Kushner asked, “What do you care?” He emphasized his point with an expletive.

“O.K.,” Mr. Priebus replied. “You do whatever you want.”

Frownland 07-21-2018 07:34 AM

I was being ironic. She's being treated similar to past first ladies. I do genuinely think its a silly tradition though.

Lisnaholic 07-21-2018 07:54 AM

At least I registered the irony of your "leads to fasc..." comment, though quite often your irony sails straight over my head, I'm afraid.

Yes, all that stuff about "What will the first lady wear?" is pretty silly of course but sometimes it provides a bit of light relief, or a heartwarming story to sweeten the pill that the end of civilization is nigh.

An ironical observation about the beginnings of fascism:-

Surely the first tell-tale sign is when a political party design a mock-military uniform for themselves - the Brownshirts, the Blackshirts, etc. We'll know that fascism has infiltrated MB when the mods all post avatars of themselves as Blueshirts. ;)

This Trump vs. Cohen thing is heating up very quickly. Imagine you have a long time lawyer and "fixer" who ends up on the hot seat and decides he's not going to take a fall for his ex-client. The **** Cohen must know and can testify to....

Trump's already trying to spin that Cohen taping him was illegal.

Not according to the America Bar Association:

Quote:

The American Bar Association’s Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility recently reversed long-standing precedent and held that lawyers may ethically tape their conversations, with some caveats. ABA Formal Opinion 01-422, issued with little fanfare on the eve of the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago in early August, held that the Model Rules do not proscribe a lawyer from taping his own conversations, provided the taping is not illegal in the relevant jurisdictions and the lawyer does not lie about whether the conversation is being taped, if asked about it.
Checked and it's completely legal in New York, where I assume the taping took place.

Nah, just the fact that Trump is squirming like an overstuffed yet nervous egomaniac, and probably screaming daily at folks like Conway, Sanders, Pence, Hannity, Guliani, and others to "make it all go away", will carry me through.

Anteater 07-21-2018 05:40 PM

You guys should read up on FDR's daughter sometime. Her rise to political power during her dad's 12 years make Ivanka look like nothin', though there's certainly a precedent there.

Ivanka is nothing but a silver spoon fed rich girl who's capitalized on our current media saturation obsession, and glamour over substance adulation.

Read today that Kylie Jenner is about to become the youngest self made Billionaire.

Sorry to deflect from politics for a bit, but figured it was relevant since Kylie and Ivanka are both cut from basically the same cloth.

Did you read anything after that?

"Welcome to the era of extreme fame leverage"

Also, curious what isn't self made about her.
