Well I assume an MD can't (legally) prescribe medication for mental health unless they are a psychiatrist. Am I wrong there?

I think if you’re practicing medicine legally in good standing you have the authority to prescribe anything at your own discretion but if you **** it up you can end up seeing a review board, get sued, or even catch a case.

In Florida the only reason the GP isn’t able to is if she works at a clinic or hospital or network with that policy.

I guess a GP is qualified to prescribe medicine for basic anxiety and depression but they should know their patient well enough to do so. They can't really prescribe mood stabilizers for bipolar disorder or something like that. I don't understand what you're seeing a GP for rather than a counselor unless the counselor sent you to a GP which kind of seems like an unscrupulous loop hole. The ghetto ****ing sucks. The least amount of mental health facilities where it matters the most. Despite not being able to afford treatment, at least I'm privileged enough to get the proper treatment if I could.
Edit: I redact that, actually. Because my 2nd therapist literally told me that maybe I'm just ungrateful before I could even say anything.

That's a huge problem, no wonder misdiagnosis is such an issue. **** man that makes me sad. So many people just being given pills to try without establishing a diagnosis and relationship with a mental health professional? I dont trust my gp to understand my mental health in the slightest. **** man that makes me sad. I know I already said that.
