Well I assume an MD can't (legally) prescribe medication for mental health unless they are a psychiatrist. Am I wrong there?

That is my understanding... my GP can adjust dosage and such because the drug itself has already been prescribed by my psychiatrist, but they cannot prescribe initially.

I think if you’re practicing medicine legally in good standing you have the authority to prescribe anything at your own discretion but if you **** it up you can end up seeing a review board, get sued, or even catch a case.
