No I don't hate it, I just don't know if I can handle the emotional toll the work itself takes long term.

That's fair. Maybe take an environmental job? You're still fighting a losing battle but at least the trees don't have expressions.

Honestly I've been thinking the same thing! It just seems like all the things I'm currently qualified for involve cleaning up needles and fecal matter from park bathrooms.

Steph, I think about the doctors and nurses who work in children's cancer and/or burn wards and wonder how they are able to clock out and go home to their own kids after 8-9 hours of being immersed in all of that.

There's got to be some way of shutting down because so many people through the years have been able to have a career like that. Not saying it hasn't ripped some people apart, but might be worth looking into some reading material on the matter.

See if I were operating with a full deck to begin with that level of compartmentalization might be possible - but my experience would be more like if the nurse worked in the children's section of the burn ward but the nurse herself was also terribly burned as a child.

Maybe do that. I'm sure there are plenty of parks. What you've been training to do for years has ended up not being right for you cause you don't want to be a teacher and now you don't want to be a social worker. I don't see many options that don't involve just abandoning jobs that deal with people.
