The WWII Thread
Anyone interested in discussing? I've been fascinated by World War II since I was little. Back then, the only comics you could graduate to after the "funnies" dealt with either soccer or war. I was never much into football, so I ended up reading about Nazis and Tommies and Japs. In recent times, I've gotten into watching more and more documentaries on the war, and it's quite interesting how the view espoused in publications like War Picture Library, Warlord and Battle Picture Weekly were, obviously, heavily slanted in favour of the Allies (though Battle I think it was did a story based on a German hero, Hellmann of Hammer Force - was very good if I remember) and now I get to hear about the other side, to an extent anyway.
So, anyone up for talking about the Second World War, here I am. And I have a question to pose: was it not a superbly naive move of Hitler to declare war on the USA after Pearl Harbor? If he had left the Americans fighting the Japs, would that not have a) kept them out of the war in Europe and b) given him a chance to consolidate his power? Surely D-Day would never have worked without the American involvement? And the British didn't fight, did they, in the Pacific Theatre? Or am I wrong? I don't remember ever hearing that they did. So surely then he made a massive blunder by declaring war on the US? |
As far as I know not in the Pacific, but in Indochina they certainly did. Of course there's probably a reason those assumedly British comics didn't want to cover that.

On another subject: the Aryan ideal? Did Hitler look even slightly Aryan? And Himmler? He looked more like he should be in command of a Japanese battalion or something! ****ing gob****es. Did you read about the Jewish revenge plot? |

Another addition to the fake grammar rule list.

I don't make more grammar mistakes than native English speakers. This fact pleases me.

It's amazing. |
It weren't none mistake, American grammar is full of arbitrary rules derived from upper class writing conventions developed when there wasn't any kind of standard. See "or less," ending a sentence with a preposition, order of subjects, etc.

this thread sucks infinitely more than nazi germany

I theorize that that arbitrary rule was conceived by someone trying to avoid just that.
"Man I wish I were drunk." "Uh...it's was since you're using the first person singular." "No! Not when it hasn't happened yet because that person doesn't exist so it's someone else!" "Yes My Lord." *cowers in fear of being executed* |
