If he died when his son is 18, how could he do anything about it? You're saying having the outlook he has is bad but he doesn't really have a choice in the matter if it happens.

I would rather not die when my youngest turns 18, but if I am going to die at a young point in my kid's life, I hope it's not until she is at least 18.

And you think thats somehow better than if she was 17? I dont understand the arbitrary value youre placing on age. Id expect an answer like when my last one is successful and out on her own. Knowing you did your job as a parent seems like the goal you should be striving for versus "well shes 18 now so i can die comfortably".
