I'm good. I just think our opinions are different on this topic.

I mean the point is that if you took every dollar you ever spent on Steam how many African children do you think you could feed?

I understand that. But why should I give up all forms of enjoyment to donate? It's possible to do both.

It's not though. You don't make enough to do both. I don't even know if Bezos makes enough to do both. I mean if you just want to make yourself feel better without actually having to cut into your lifestyle then by all means try to do both but somebody's gonna die who doesn't have to.

I didn't realize you had to make a certain amount to donate to a charity. Though I realize again you guys are talking bigger picture whereas I am not.
I'm talking more from an individual standpoint.

Okay then. Do you have enough money to feed all of the starving people on earth or cure all the sick? If not then you're already working from a losing position. By buying a laptop or the latest Binding of Isaac you are further reducing the number of hungry and/or sick people you can help. Are we finally on the same page? Do I need to see your tax return so I can make this more concrete for you?

None of us help "where we can". I could give away every single free dollar I've got right now and live on basics for the rest of the month. But I'm not doing that. Even if I'm giving some of that money to charity tonight, I'm still not "helping where I can" since I could have helped more, in way that I didn't.

True selflessness is like a superpower or something. I'm keeping all or most of my money, at least this month. Probably all. Does that make me bad? I'm certainly not selflessly doing what I can to help.

It sucks, but I don't think OH is being simplistic. He's just saying it like it is. No sugar mixed in to make the drink less bitter.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to destitute myself so that some stranger can get a free bowl of porridge. If I am barely making ends meet and I donate all of my money to charity, now I'm poor too.

If I can help someone personally, I will. But giving to a charity where 95% of the donations fund a CEO's retirement account is not going to help anything in the long run.
