I used to inspect vacant houses in Newark. There were some streets where I wouldn't even get out of my car. I'd take a picture of the front of the house and then lie on the documentation form and stated that a vagrant hassled me when I was doing the inspection so I fear my life and drove away. Mortgage companies would just look at the address and assume it was the truth.

It’s heartbreaking that that kind real estate goes completely abandoned. You put a little toolshed in a trendy white neighborhood and they start at 750 g and that beautiful architecture there just rots away entirely worthless. Is that just white flight? Also, why isn’t it filled with crack vials and syringes and empty bottles? Squatters never invaded that space? Why not?
