The death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg just six weeks before the election cast an immediate spotlight on the crucial high court vacancy, with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell quickly vowing to bring to a vote whoever President Donald Trump nominates.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Gunfire at a backyard party killed two people and wounded 14 others early Saturday in Rochester, New York, a city that has been roiled in recent weeks by outrage over the suffocation death of Daniel Prude.

As many as 100 people were at the gathering when the shooting started just before 12:30 a.m., Acting Police Chief Mark Simmons told reporters.

Police were still trying to piece together who opened fire and why. Simmons said it was too early to say whether more than one person was shooting or who the intended targets may have been.

A man and woman, estimated to be in their late teens or early 20s, were killed, Simmons said. None of the wounded people were believed to have life-threatening injuries. They were being treated at two area hospitals.

“This is truly a tragedy of epic proportions,” Simmons said in a news conference held near the home. “I mean 16 victims is unheard of, and for our community, who’s right now going through so much, to have to be dealt with this tragedy, needlessly, for people who decide to act in a violent manner is unfortunate and shameful, and we’re going to do everything that we can as a department to bring those people involved to justice.”
As if way more people aren’t going to die from the covid fallout from the party

The shooter did the community a favor

Goddamn people you don’t have to see blood for people to die. The virus kills people ffs.

The chief of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard threatened Saturday to go after everyone who had a role in a top general’s January killing during a U.S. drone strike in Iraq.

The guard’s website quoted Gen. Hossein Salami as saying, “Mr. Trump! Our revenge for martyrdom of our great general is obvious, serious and real.”

Thanks in advance

I'm honestly shocked at how badly de Blasio is doing. In the urbanist community they've hated him for years because he takes an SUV and a detail to the YMCA. But some of the "clearly this wasn't a smart move"decisions one after another. You get the impression he's trying to be calculating, but he isn't good at math, and people can tell he's not earnest.

I seem to remember him (Cuomo) enjoying relatively high approval and trust near the beginning of the pandemic - he was doing those daily press conferences and people were throwing the idea around of running him on the Dem ticket.

That all must have been before the nursing home fiasco - or at least before the gravity of it became clearer.

That was cause he was railing against Trump who has been an even bigger disaster on his Covid response. I doubt it had much of anything to do with Cuomo's own record or policies.
