Schwarzenegger was terrible for CA, we're still recovering from the damage he did to our social programs. Of course governor vs presidential elections are different, I'm not comparing the two. I'm just saying that there are more than a few instances to point to that support my assertion that CA could absolutely flip for the right candidate. |

In the last election, 4 of the 5 most populous counties in Texas voted blue (6 of 9 counties).
In the Primaries, Cruz beat Trump mercilessly and got over twice as many delegates and over 60% more popular votes. Overall, Trump won Texas by less than 9% and the shift in demographics in Texas is making it harder for the reds to rely on that same kind of outcome. Even if he hadn't ego-shitted on the pandemic response, we have a lot more Latinos (nearly half of the state) who tend to vote blue anyway and have eyes and ears when it comes to the GOPutrids take on "them brown people." Just north of Dallas, we have two counties that have recently been voting red, but in the March primary, Bernie beat out the other Dems (incl. Biden) running in both of them, so that gives me some hope. There are too many tiny buttlefuck counties to turn the state blue, I'm afraid (we have 254 in total), but if Biden doesn't hose it by 2024, we'll have a lot more Latinos and younger people here to give the election to AO-C in 2024. Just doesn't seem particularly likely to me based on the past presidential election results. Beyond the fact that the Democrats have been consistently winning the state in every presidential race by a wide margin for years, this premise seems to suppose the Republicans would have to go much more moderate than they've shown the inclination to do so.

It’s better not to take it for granted.
