Maybe I haven't paid enough attention.

In his first two years, he passed a "tax reform" bill, he got some supreme court justices confirmed, moved the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, pulled us out of the Paris Climate agreement.

What else did the GOP get done in Trump's first two years?

They reshaped the way we think about each other.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

The Dems are very good at controlling the narrative. The Republicans are always playing catchup.

Obviously, the Dems aren't perfect, but I think they're more productive in getting legislation passed and shaping a narrative for the public.
The only thing the Dems have going for them as far as the national discourse goes is that they just so happen to be closer to the status quo than the Republicans are who prop up their narrative (even more) on oil money, NRA money, an alliance with the Christian right, and that they go for the throat at all times since they know that if they don't people will just be like "Hey, you know I don't really like all this Republican stuff now that I think about it".

The Dems are still fighting like it's a few decades ago cause they think they're supposed to maintain decorum as if the other party isn't The Enemy cause otherwise the moderate liberal facade would completely collapse and that's what their entire world view is built upon. They can't even contemplate fighting modern political battles as if America is the failed state that it is.

I don't really have any serious disagreements with your point of view here.

That said, I don't think Republicans "go for the throat" at all times. In fact, I think they are so feckless as a party, that they were willing to abandon any sort of principles they had and nominate Trump. This is a party that nominated complete hacks like Mitt Romney and John McCain (I can't stand the veneration of McCain as a "war hero" - he was a destructive and toxic war-hawk who, like John Bolton, never saw a war he disapproved of). The Republicans were a lost party - they didn't have any sort of unifying identity. Sure, they had alliances with the Christian right (which I can't believe is still a political force to be reckoned with - blows my mind), and they served as the opposition party during Obama's terms, but after Bush, and after the completely justified expulsion from our collective minds of the justificiations that led Bush and his ragtag gang of neoconservatives to kill and pilfer the Middle East, the Republicans required something that would serve as a firestarter for their base. Trump was their man. Did Trump care about "the gays"? No. Did Trump care about "fiscal conservatism"? No. Did Trump care about "law and order"? Well, supposedly. The Republicans gave in and nominated him. After Trump, what is their identity supposed to be? Can the party escape 'Trumpism' when Donald is either not reelected or leaves office? I don't know, but I don't see a way in which they go back to Bush or Romney Republicanism.

The Dems have their own problems though. They have somewhat of a fracture - one sect that supports more Sanders-esque policies and another that is more receptive of the status quo (ala Obama). Their uniting principle is that they all want to get Trump out. Will that unity be enough to win a national election? We'll see.

I will caution all those who oppose Trump - don't believe the polls. If you want this guy out, you NEED to go out and vote against him. Don't accept that the polls show him as lagging far behind Biden as justification to stay home on election day. There are more supporters of Trump than you realize and don't think that everyone answers these polls honestly. I for one don't think things will improve with Biden. Perhaps his possible opportunity to appoint the next Supreme Court Justice is enough reason to vote for him, but I don't think things will magically improve with Biden in the Oval Office.
