Many people who lived outside the slave states were in favor of simply killing every black person in America to solve the problem of white southerners having the economic advantage of free labor. Besides serious abolitionists most white people were only concerned with rich plantation owners eating up too much of the pie.

Calling an abolitionist a slave trader is disrespectful as hell and an absolutely racist falsehood that puts the blame of the oppressor's actions on those who aimed to liberate the oppressed.

I'm not sure if the South's "free labor" was an economic advantage. Makes much more economic sense in the long run to adopt machinery/automation to replace slave labor.

A biography I read on Nat Turner made that claim.

What the free labor argument made sense or not it was the main objection of business owners in the north.
