Within hours of being fired Bannon is back as Executive Chairman at Breitbart.
This is going to be fun, fun, fun.

I'm changing topics here, but this "Everytown For Gun Safety" group is really pissing me off. They seem to get off on using logical fallacies (their favorite by far is emotional appeals) on their Twitter profile and elsewhere.
I found out they partnered with the NBA apparently, and that really pisses me off. |

Just browsed their website and didn't see anything ojectable. Gun violence and accidental gun deaths are emotional issues. Each year about 6,000 children are treated in the US for accidental gunshot wounds, and about 2,000 of them die.

Only a 33% fatality rate? Kids need better aim.

They're emotional issues, but it's a lot more constructive and effective to approach it logically. It's not a hard point to back up in that manner either, so relying on pathos isn't really necessary. I know that they do it to bring more people to their side, and I imagine that the people that it turns away wouldn't be persuaded regardless of the methods used, so it makes sense for them as an organization to use it. It can be annoying though.

If you visit the site you won't find very much in the way of pathos. It's mostly about common sense stuff like mandatory BG checks, closing loopholes, teaching gun safety, putting tighter restrictions on internet sales - which are really out of control, etc.

Moms Demand Action | Tweet If you scroll down on that page, they have a specific section of twitter messages called "fact tweets". Some of these facts are wildly inaccurate, extremely ambiguous, or both, (and the source page no longer works, but if you look at the hyperlink, you'll notice it links to their own ****ing site, which is never a good sign for a properly researched argument), but they are also all emotional appeals. Listing the number of gun deaths is not a call to do anything. Facts aren't arguments, but this group is trying to use them as such. |
