It’s the baseline average you see when you live overseas. In S Korea and Japan a fully uneducated person is very rare. Here it’s very common.

To clarify here, I don't think this is the largest reason he won. Carter's time in office included the Iranian Revolution, gas shortages, and really the end of the New Deal limitations. It also represented an aberration of sorts. Nixon was the national favorite, disrupted by impeachment, and Regan reflected a violent snap back.

Also, it's fair to say that in 1979, we could have done with some deregulation. Untested, it wasn't absurd people voted for him.

If you listen to Carter he was saying how Reagan opposes this and that. Reagan said he didn't so much opposed as he preferred another bill. It's all political rhetoric, and nothing to hang you hat on. "There you go again" is more like saying to Carter you are not going to define me or my position. It's like calling his bluff -- his political rhetoric bluff. That's why Reagan looked like a stronger candidate to the viewing television audience back then.

The people who voted for him wanted a huge nuclear arsenal. Supported amping up the Cold War and objected to implementing an energy policy that would have revolutionized the world and would’ve given us a chance to fight climate change.

And ftr I’m glad he suffered for years and died like a little bitch wearing a diaper.

This is a position you can take in hindsight, but that's like dunking on a toddler. The odds are rigged in your favor.

Your broad-stroke analysis of his support is ill-informed. His victory in 1984 was one of the largest wins in American history. I don't like Reagan nor do I support his views. But my opinion has no bearing on reality.

I watched that debate live as a kid and even then I could see through his bull****.

His big win is one thing among millions that prove America deserves no place in this world.
