Because the Dem majority rushed it along previously in the House, called who they wanted at the expense of what the Republicans asked for, but still voted on the Articles anyway. Probably revenge for Merrick Garland.

That being said, seeing Cipollone's closing argument for Trump with those C-Span clips where he's literally throwing Schumer's own words from the Clinton impeachment proceedings back in his face was pure art.

Nah, it's cause they don't think this process is helping Trump despite pretending it does. Some of them are pretending now that they want Hunter Biden in exchange for Bolton. They're bluffing. They have the majority. They can get Hunter Biden without concessions if they want. They don't want witnesses because then people are going to day why not Bolton, why not Lev Parnas. Because those men will both make Trump look worse than he already does.
