It doesn’t really matter I guess but for me I like to read and it’s way faster to read

it will sink in even deeper if you rewrite it in a notepad as you read. And even more if you rewrite it twice.

Yeah I'm still right. Taste in art is associated with wealth and privilege and education. It's a flex to show you're not some mouthbreathing farmer. And showing that you're practical and serious minded and not about all that wasteful snobbery is how the farmers flex on the effete intellectuals. Elph wants to be the Bohemian snob elevated above his lessers and you want to be the working class snob tearing down your betters.

I've been attached to books my whole life (and I love the feeling of being immersed in a story as I pore over it), but that's also a byproduct of growing up into my early teens with asthma that was so terrible I couldn't do anything except sit in a bed most of the time. It was either read or drown in television pretty much.

because I have mindless tasks to complete and keeping my mind occupied makes the day go by quicker while I also learn stuff/get entertained/whatever?

There are some dead broke hip hop elitists out there. Art isn't necessarily tied to wealth. A few hundred years ago that would be more true.

These days it's more matter of trying to seem smart and deep. Elitism is not a function of how rich you are... But how much time you spend on forums like this

But I do support the values you highlighted. That is true. I diss the poor cause they represent no values. They are animals.

You are both dirty, smelly plebes. Having taste in art no longer conjures to the mind that you're a member of the landed gentry with enough time to waste on staring at Botticelli, but having taste in art is still associated with intelligence and sophistication, as opposed to stupidity and crudity. And that is still at least subconsciously associated with wealth and privilege, or at least being someone destined for greater wealth and privilege than someone who is crude and stupid.

We are all still interacting with our culture as if we were living in a true aristocracy. Humanity has lived in aristocracies of one form or another for thousands of years. We're just not as aware of it anymore.
