I wouldn't call it an attempt to disrupt democracy. It's more that he's trying to preserve his power by destabilizing threats from within. And it goes way further back than Putin.

Think geopolitics might be less cartoonish in the real world. Lots of causes of the current rise of right-populism other than Putin's influence, though that is there.

main cause it's immigration and demographic change

Putin tried to interfere via WikiLeaks and Facebook trolls. Didn't even have that much of an impact imo.
