Not really: it was just an observation. I've lived in north Texas for decades. Housing market is pretty crazy, but I have African-American and Korean-American neighbors who live in houses that cost the same as mine and who appear to be raising families of their own. If that's "gentrification", then let's have more of that.

There’s been an increase in rent and homelessness where I live. Let’s have less of that.

I'm surprised people aren't lobbing Molotovs at city hall over that tbh.

Going back to Portland for a sec: housing costs in Portland are high today because you have more and more people working remote jobs for Silicon Valley companies, and they are buying up cheaper properties but netting California salaries. Gentrification might have played some role prior to the last five or ten years, but I'm pretty sure some black guy could get remote work in Portland as easily as some rando white dude.

Some of this is explored in the article below, but there are plenty of others I looked at that talk about it as well.

How do we fight against gentrification?

I also feel like I’ve caused gentrification especially in Portland

I lived in Portland early to mid 90’s and that white youthful hipster presence played a big role in making those neighborhoods prohibitively expensive for many people just a few years later

I wonder if anyone has ever studied Nirvana’s role in the gentrification of the entire Pacific Northwest
Promoting community participation, affordable housing programs, and redevelopment.

No, the false dilemma of a neighbourhood remaining eternally poor is definitely a poor excuse for accelerating gentrification.

Redevelopment of what? No sarcasm. Serious question.

Tear down mansions, strip malls, and government plots to make room for several modest homes and/or apartments.

Those people want to live in Portland because it was originally culturally enriched by people like me.
