When do you think it'd be smart for our government to prepare our economy for a move into pure automation?

I know that when the first signs of automation showed up, they assumed that we'd just get shorter work weeks with the same pay. How naive.

Eventually, possibly sooner than later, I think most huge factories are going to automate almost everything since it's both cheaper and more efficient. What will happen to the working class then?
