I live like a mile from the water but it’s a bay connected to the gulf not the gulf itself - it still surges at the same volume but it offers resistance (faint as it might be) to weather that’s been riding on the gulf. Water in gulf will be going nuts but the bay ripples along doing its own thing
When it was a tropical storm in the south part of the gulf I looked at it and thought there sure is a lot of warm water to build this s o b up. Shonuff was It’s always hot but this “summer” has been a killer for going on 7 months I’ve been comparing daily temperatures to the averages for the date June July and August were typically scorching but April May and September and now even October have been midsummer like Responsible meteorologists want to use past to patterns as predictors coupled with the knowledge that the water is hotter than average. Like a lot of things climate change related I think we’re expecting smooth even growth but we’re starting to see that it’s exponential growth sort of like the weather patterns are mixing booze with pills 2 plus 2 equals 5 If you want to see where greenhouse gases in the atmosphere lead look at our friendly neighbor Venus.
