There definitely is no shortage of trees here. Our prime minister promised in 2015 to have two billion trees planted in order to fight global warming/climate change. He got ridiculed because a tiny fraction of those trees are planted. The promise gets ridiculed because people think we have enough trees (one can never have enough, especially in the city).

In my city, we have a problem with the emerald ash borer. My street has a number of them. They've all been chopped down, with very few replacements planted. After the derecho touched down in May, a rather large number of mature trees came tumbling down. We spend so much time cleaning up and recovering from those events, that we forget or don't have the time to plant new trees. It's a shame.

I saw that headline. It reminds me of this one.

For our Nuclear Hawks:

Nuclear Power Isn’t Perfect. Is It Good Enough?

Liberals endorse harm reduction when it comes to the opioid epidemic. Are they ready to take the same approach to climate change?

For once there's some good news from drought-stricken California, and if you don't particularly feel like reading the article, it also has a bunch of Before/After comparison photos which some geography nerds enjoy so much

So because of the explosion and the controlled burn from East Palestine Ohio, There is a strange smell that people are reporting from my area to the DEC. This is going to have long lasting effects on Ohio itself and nearby areas. The DEC is saying that the source of the smell is coming from our area though and it's not related but I'm not so sure about that.

It's probably going to kill everything in the great lakes.

Agreed I also forgot to mention that my area is like a 6 hour drive east of where that explosion occurred.

Biden just mentioned this.
Quote:
The Environmental Protection Agency will take control of the response to the Ohio train derailment disaster and order rail company Norfolk Southern to clean up the contamination, the agency said Tuesday, the Biden administration’s strongest response yet to the crisis.

Rather than clean up the toxic wreck voluntarily, as it has done so far, Norfolk Southern will be required to do so under a plan approved by the EPA, which will also take over certain aspects of the response from Ohio. Norfolk Southern will also have to pay the remediation costs — as well as pay for cleaning services that the agency will offer to residents and businesses, participate in public meetings and share information publicly, according to the EPA.
