Is it my imagination, or does this thread get the most attention the more it veers off topic?

Maybe that's understandable as it's about a depressing topic that we cannot influence very much. We can make some good, but drop-in-the-ocean choices. Then we can can't do much except stand back and watch - unless you want to go all-in with Batlord's ecoterrorist group

Sorry if my source is always the CNN website, but here's today's alarming headline:-

Earth is warming faster than previously thought, scientists say, and the window is closing to avoid catastrophic outcomes https://edition.cnn.com/2021/08/09/w...pcc/index.html

Quote:
"Bottom line is that we have zero years left to avoid dangerous climate change, because it's here," Michael E. Mann, a lead author of the IPCC's 2001 report, told CNN.

Unlike previous assessments, Monday's report concludes it is "unequivocal" that humans have caused the climate crisis and confirms that "widespread and rapid changes" have already occurred, some of them irreversibly.

In a statement, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called the report "a code red for humanity," and noted the 1.5-degree threshold is "perilously close."
In case you are wondering about the 1.5 degree figure, it's "a critical threshold that world leaders agreed warming should remain below to avoid worsening impacts."

Checking the article now to see if the UN Secretary-General endorses ecoterrorism...

The U.S. could go to net-zero emissions tomorrow and it won't even make a dent. We need to send ecoterrorist mercenaries to China and India to tickle them until they stop using fossil fuels and start powering everything with leftover Tang from the 90's.

america going net zero would include the production it outsources to china, so it'd make a difference in their output too ya ****in propagandist

China is like at 30% of the world's total. Most of that is their own stuff. India is tied with the U.S. for second or third place depending on where you read, (along with the E.U.) but my point still stands.

Here's some propaganda for you numbskull - how about starting with the countries that actually contribute the most to the problem and work your way down? If I go by your logic, then actually fixing China would end up helping solve the problem at a much greater scale anyway.

If you had any grasp of priorities, you'd be ready to invade china like I am. But you aren't.
Yes we all know I'm a bad man.

My point is that all of the world's greater goals to combat climate change are ****ed anyway unless something changes in China due to the sheer gulf in output between them and everyone else. The United States is a non-factor in comparison, bar utilizing their military power or leading the way in additional sanctions.

Americans be playing six degrees of separation from China being behind the root of all their problems to distract themselves from the stench of their rotting empire.

What's the point if it isn't going to move the needle? The U.S. is already pushing forward their own internal goals to lower their emissions footprint. Is anyone else going to?

I read the Der Stürmer article too and it's blatantly false.
