Yes.

I think he's referring to the Muslims that view Mohammed as a perfect role model and try to imitate his life in every way. Dying their beards and **** like that. However, like virtually everything else in Islam, it's contested and debated by different sects of the religion.

Following the example of Prophet Muhammad in ones life - Islam web - English

Interesting to see the difference that two decades can make. About 75% of my coworkers are atheist/non-religious.

I'm just going to go on believing you live in the Bay Area. It makes it easier for me to romanticize Jesus the Carpenter. Just play along. Thanks.

Or, you know, you could try coming up with a point of your own.

No. I was talking about the prophet Muhammad, not ibn Abd al-Wahhab. But if you asked Wahhab if he was a "legitimate" Muslim or not I'm sure he'd say he followed the prophet's teachings more closely than anyone.

Moving to San Diego was a trip because Christianity is HUGE here as opposed to back east. It's pretty wild how many of my co-workers were flipped out 2 decades ago when they found out I was an atheist.

But we treated each other with mutual respect and could discuss things like how ridiculous the whole Noah's Ark story is. They embrace the faith as a major part of their lives but are able to separate the faith from the fable.
Whether or not Jesus was a real person isn't really the point. It's all about depiction. Is Muhammad (the prophet) a better role model than Jesus as he's depicted and quoted? He's held way above Jesus in their hierarchy. Christianity and Islam have different gold standards despite all the things they have in common.

Jesus isn't imitated to nearly the same extent either, so kind of a false analogy there.
