The teachings of the religion aren't good to people that don't have any faith in them.

No, some religious teachings are fundamentally and morally bad

It think it's possible to re-contextualize most religious texts into a fairly benign interpretation, but no, they are not all created equal.

This is crazy true and it's surprising how many people don't recognize it. I mean, the bible is like three times longer than the quran.

Maybe the terrorism has more to do with lower IQ than religion? But I doubt that's a fun topic to discuss.

I'd wager that (for the most part) a low IQ would be a major factor when it came to joining a religion in the first place

I don't think so. Plenty of hugely intelligent people are religious in one way or another. The level of religiosity and likelihood of becoming an extremist probably heightens as the IQ drops though.

I didn't have a bias against it until Lower Manhattan looked like Sarajevo.

How many of them were born into it though? That's different from "joining" a religion, which I'd wager is closer to what Ziggy describes.

Interesting side note, I've seen research before that suggests new converts of any religion are more likely to be zealots than people who grew up in it.

I would believe that at face value without seeing studies. Obviously, it would be nice to see some kind of source to back it up.

One of the huge worries in England at the moment is radicalization within prisons as you get (generally) impressionable low IQ dickheads becoming fanatics.
