essentially you are saying its all our fault and the path forward to solving it is recognizing our guilt... so how do you pursue that in a way that is going to stop the people who are already driven to kill us?
i've said it once, i'll say it again
you have to look at guys like sayyid qutb to understand the modern manifestation of islamic terror. the motivations are both religious and political. there is no either or, that's a false dichotomy.
sayyid was a man who lived in egypt in the early to late 20th century and was a dissident of the secular regime. he sought to create a state in egypt that was ruled by islamic principles and sharia law. he was an inspiration for the likes of al zawahiri and osama bin laden. he laid the foundation on which ISIS is attempting to build an actual islamic caliphate.
do they hate western imperialism? yes, because it subverts their own imperialist ambitions. would they still hate the west without western imperialism? almost certainly yes, because they view us as godless, decadent, and slaves to our carnal nature.
that is the ideology we are talking about in a nutshell. trying to put the shutters on and only speak about western foreign policy is an ironically ethnocentric pov espoused by leftist cowards who feel such immense guilt for being the benefactors of the current global imperialism that they neurotically suppose that everything every other culture does is somehow a reaction to our own, landing us : western civilization - neatly in the center of the universe.
