George Will [yes, George Will(!)]:

George Will On Last Word: Trump Has 'Dangerous Disability'

The original article from Will - a guy who is soooo excessively conservative and arrogant most of the time.
Many people are amazed that he actually wrote this piece (and that he sat down with Lawrence O'Donnel ).

When I read this first for a moment I thought it said "Kylie breaks down Trumpcare"! Mind you, that might make just as much sense...

x2 for both of these. Honestly, when the subject at hand seems to be Trump ****ing over the American people for their health cover, it seems totally disingenuous, defensive and to be honest a little insulting to be grinning about whether or not Obama was spying on him. Priorities?

Just the sort of person you want in charge of the Free World (TM), right?

1. Except complaining about what Trump is attempting to do with health care at this point is pointless and the equivalent of beating a dead horse. Either the Senate will get it amended enough to where it will be more comprehensive (not that the ACA is that good either at the present moment: they'd be better off trying to fix what we already have probably) or they'll just reject it at the last minute. Rand Paul's paranoia about Obama is at least moderately funny in comparison.

2. Trump's unpredictability on the world stage has proven to be, at least to me, the one thing about him that's compelling. Enemy nations can't wrap their heads around him so when you see stuff like China putting pressure on North Korea as a "consequence" of Trump's words and actions you realize there might be something to that old "4D chess" meme after all. Very different from past administrations but maybe not bad in the long run.

Sorry, I don't want a leader of the free world who baffles with
bullshit and incompetence - especially one that doesn't realize
that he's doing this.
Dangerous? - yes.
"Compelling"? - not wanted.

Honestly, this criticism easily applies to the last few administrations too. They just had better mouthpieces and didn't antagonize the media.

If I were to pick three things I wanted in a leader (and yes, it matters to us too, as apart from anything else he's going to try take on our low corporate tax rate) I think entertaining would not be on the list. At all.

I dunno if you should be brushing off the last few decades of history like that. Trump didn't occur in a vacuum as much as the Democrats would like to believe otherwise.

Entertainment is one of those things that's nice to have. Kind of like how Bill Clinton played the sax.

Good leadership, fairness, courage, statesmanship, intelligence, compassion, understanding of his job and that of others, understanding of the world around him ... Nope: don't see entertainment there. Kind of like saying what you want from a band is that they like kittens. It helps if they know how to play their instruments first, and it's a hell of a lot more important. A president can be entertaining, to a degree, but this ain't a popularity contest nor a reality show: this is the big one, reality. Real life. And it's ****ing serious.

Did Obama demonstrate any of these qualities when millions of Americans lost their livelihoods in the aftermath of the Recession yet he chose not to go after Wall-Street despite having the power to do? Or hold anyone to anything resembling accountability? Trump is gonna have to work pretty hard to top that one.

At the end of the day, Trump is just an example of Peter's Principle at work. Means well maybe, but way over head and not detail oriented enough to make anyone happy. Even his fellow rich will hate him in the long run since he's also talking about breaking up the big banks.

At the same time, he's not devoid of the qualities you've mentioned: he's just dug himself into such a deep hole that there's no way for him to come out of this in a positive light. Kind of like how people felt about Bush after the Iraq War.

See, I never had any amazing expectations for Trump to begin with (seeing as I didn't vote for him). Hard to be disappointed in somebody when everything about him is a big ? mark even to people in his own tax bracket. I would have been thrilled if he could have improved the ACA, but I knew it was a longshot.
