The only reason we have technologies in development that promote sustainability is because we live in a society that has embraced capitalism and where that kind of thinking is encouraged. Entrepreneurial individuals connecting with the right people doesn't happen in any kind of Communistic society.

The Soviet Union was first in space but ok.

Our farms are totally regulated and subsidized.

Water is completely regulated by the government.

Our military is entirely a socialist institution somewhat ironically for the right.

Our entire government is obviously public sector.

FCC governs communications.

ATF. TSA. FAA.

National and State Parks.

Our highways.

FDA.

The FBI, CIA, NSA, all public sector socialist institutions. Everyone who works at the Pentagon. The IRS. The police. NASA.

The Apollo missions. Pretty much every space endeavor by any country. Splitting the atom was a public works program. We actually out communisted the Soviets to win the Cold War.

Banks and auto industries bailed out by socialist policy. Subways. Busses. School.

Lol Russian Communism was a corrupt sham with an unsustainable society. As bad as it is now, it was even worse back then. There are no incentives in a "pure" Communist society to innovate because there's no competition. People assume government does what it's supposed to do in a non-capitalist context (since there's no way inequality would ever arise in these "perfect" societies right?111), but that's never held true even in today's longest running socialist societies.

Capitalism would honestly be perfect here in the U.S. if green energy and other, more sustainable industries based around newer advances in biotech continue to gain ground and cost effectiveness. But those technologies would have never emerged in the U.S. if we were something other than a capitalist society. Many of the things you cite above in regards to government innovation here in the U.S. are based on what I'm talking about.

Real innovation these days is done between universities, private investment and ingenuity birthed from people working together outside the red tape of bureaucracy.

Wow. You really dismantled all my examples. The Soviet Union was a sham? Fine. So is America so what does that leave us with?

Doesn't matter. Universities raise money from private donors all the time for all manner of things...a benefit to living in a capitalist society where some people have more money than others. Ironically (considering where they were just two decades ago), China does that as well...but thanks to less government regulation are currently ahead of us in regards to research into CRISPR with humans.

In countries where universities don't raise private investment and rely more on government funding, you don't see these kinds of breakthroughs as much.

Hawk provided examples of where the US has implemented overarching government control and regulation of certain areas, then kinda continues on the "crapitalism is crap" narrative. Maybe we should consider the fact that the US isn't a fully a capitalist or free market society before blaming all of the problems on it.
