Thankfully this was stopped due to public outcry. Compare this to bipartisan outrage at things like the Watergate scandal - our blase reaction and inept path forward to recent issues (ie Russia cyberwarfare) that have arguably been worse than Watergate has been really disheartening. Clearly, Republicans are testing the waters of what they can get away with - we will lose a lot, but at least people are still paying attention.
