It won't help. Unless you have guards stationed 24/7 every 1/4 mile of the wall it'll be useless.

And then there's this. Here in San Diego there's a large portion of that 700 miles of wall. Drug smugglers reply:

Funding of art is a public good

It makes complete sense

Why is this flying over peoples heads?

And Goofle, once again, I disagree, therefore it's bad for everyone.

That's pretty condescending... Not that I agree with Goofle, but the role of government is subjective. If it isn't please explain to me how you objectively explain its' role when even the two biggest parties representing it do not share all the same views.

Edit: Maybe I'm reading too much into your post. It seems like you're saying people like Goofle have the wrong view of government and there is an absolute role.

Frownland 01-27-2017 03:42 PM

The government's role is to NOT EXIST!

Nailed it.

It's really very simple and not condescending at all:

I guess what I'm getting at is: there are different ways to provide welfare, and on that long list, art is not near the top or nearly as objectively important as something like healthcare. I think you guys have gotten so used to pissing on Goofle that anything he says gets your panties in a bunch.

Edit: I'm not agreeing with him that we shouldn't fund it, I'm just saying if we needed funding, I think it's reasonable that it's the first thing to go. We don't have an unlimited supply of money, so if he thinks there are more important things that contribute to welfare that push arts off the list, I don't think that's unreasonable.

But it still belongs on the list. Did your High School have a liberal arts program? Did it have a HS band? An art class? An acting or dramatic arts class?

Did you take part in any of it? Either way, imagine you got a kid who's about to enter High School and word comes down that they are eliminating all liberal arts programs. Wouldn't that bug you?

Goofle has been coming across these past few months as a totally self centered person who doesn't give a crap about anyone who doesn't fit into his narrow view of the world. Translation: DICK.

DwnWthVwls 01-27-2017 04:43 PM

Liberal arts is a catch all term for general education (in my experience) so cutting it would mean bye bye english, math, history, etc... it doesn't actually have to do with art specifically.

Wiki
Quote:

Modern usage

Some subsections of the liberal arts are in the trivium—the verbal arts: grammar, logic, and rhetoric; and in the quadrivium—the numerical arts: arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy. Analyzing and interpreting information is also included.

Academic areas that are associated with the term liberal arts include:

Arts (fine arts, music, performing arts)
Languages
Linguistics
Literature
Mathematics
Natural science (biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth science)
Philosophy
Psychology
Religious studies
Social science (anthropology, economics, geography, political science, sociology, history)

For example, the core courses for Georgetown University's Doctor of Liberal Studies program[14] cover philosophy, theology, history, art, literature, and the social sciences. Wesleyan University's Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program includes courses in visual arts, art history, creative and professional writing, literature, history, mathematics, film, government, education, biology, psychology, and astronomy.[15]
