True!

How Much Do the Top 1 Percent Pay of All Taxes?

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but by all accounts the top 15/20% pay almost or more than 50% of all taxes. No wonder they take steps to avoid paying even more.

You're strengthening my case there bud. And propaganda is a strong term, I think the word you were looking for is 'data'. Like facts and figures.

It's presented a bit misleadingly. Income taxes aren't the only taxes that Americans pay, and the majority of them have higher payroll taxes than income taxes. The article that Chula linked explains it quite well.

It does indeed. But it still strengthens my case that the highest earners pay vastly more into the tax system, especially proportionally.

If you only focus on income taxes and ignore the grand scheme of things, you're 100% correct.

Ah, the grand scheme. Where the richest people don't pay hugely disproportionate amounts of tax?

Imagine a world where everyone got taxed the same amount (or even percentage) regardless of income.

Problem is it's not a linear scale from poor to the 1%.

Not to mention that the uber rich hide a ton of their income off-shore prior to declaring income for tax purposes.

And then there's **** like this:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/12/bu...zero.html?_r=0

Quote:
Critics have called like-kind exchanges an outrageous tax loophole that benefits wealthy real estate developers and other investors to the tune of $33 billion in lost tax revenue a year. The Obama administration has called for repealing it, and several bipartisan measures to do so have been introduced in Congress, all to no avail given the gridlock over tax reform.

“It’s a big loophole,” Mr. Rosenthal said of the like-kind exchange provisions. “It allows well-to-do and well-advised taxpayers to defer their tax liability potentially until death.”

So you didn't read a word of the politifact article, did you?

Then why are you treating it like gospel that cannot be challenged?
