God, I really can't take another William the Bloody. One is enough.

Particular current circumstances = Republican Trump is losing to Democrat Clinton. Republican Director of FBI came under lots of fire for him closing the first investigations without bringing charges against Clinton. In this particular instance there were 4 possible outcomes on whether or not he went public. 3 would have caused him no problems with the GOP. The 4th would have gotten him screwed by the GOP.

Goes Public

1. Trump wins and the democrats are goes postal,
2. Clinton wins and it's no harm no foul.

Doesn't go public

3. Trump wins and it's no harm no foul.
4. Clinton wins and the GOP goes absolutely postal.

Of course its a criminal probe, they are searching through some 650,000 emails in search of criminal wrongdoing. The police aren't going to come to my house with a warrant to investigate a murder, or search for narcotics unless they have probable cause.

A warrant is an investigative tool for criminal activity to collect evidence to criminally charge someone.The FBI has obviously found something of merit and are currently conducting a criminal investigation into the emails belonging to Clinton's aid.

If they find something Clinton could be charged.

The criminal probe into Weiner's emails concerned only the emails related to him communicating with a minor. When they noticed there was stuff from Clinton they needed to get a warrant to legally obtain those emails so they can go through them. Comey admitted they hadn't gone through them yet because that would have been against the law without a warrant.

Since they haven't even gone through the emails yet and don't know what's in them it's not a criminal probe. If they find a single incriminating email they'll immediately turn it into a criminal investigation.

It's the same as what happened the first time around.

Using the word criminal at this point is premature and very assumptive.

No its not, you cannot obtain a warrant willy nilly, you have to have probable cause, that is approved and signed by a judge.

Obviously the FBI teams investigating Clinton and Wiener cross referenced their data and found something of merit that was enough to convince Comey to pursue a warrant. The judge must have also found it important enough to sign it.

They are not looking through the emails to examine if Hillary and her aide go to yoga every Thursday night. They are examining for criminal intent in which Hillary will be charged if the evidence is found. That is a criminal probe.

I've decided to ignore the American press until next Tuesday. It's so freaking partisan one way or the other right now that no-one is talking objectively anymore. I'm gonna stick with the BBC for news and poll numbers, etc.
