Like abortion, the decision should be left to the people involved.
Personally, I don't have a problem with it. There are less nerve clusters, so sex is some percentage less pleasurable, but there are cleanliness concerns that circumcision removes. Whether those apply in first-world countries where access to bathing water is common is of course, up for debate. So it's a choice between a sex sensation that I have no comparison for and a cleanliness issue that doesn't apply to someone who showers at least once a day. I don't really care. Referring to circumcision as 'genital mutilation' is a common tactic to raise the practice of foreskin removal from newborns to the very real mutilation of prepubescent and adolescent girls, where the clitoris is shorn from the vagina and in some cases, the vaginal opening is sewn shut. They are not comparable 'operations'. Even Christopher Hitchens, who while correct about so many things, shares your risible language on this topic, was quick to state he was not making a comparison. Language is important. That's what my smartass post was pointing out.

Removing part of the penis makes it a smaller issue.

is this why? you're all mad because you think if your foreskin wasn't snipped off you'd have bigger dicks? that's why you're bitter?

Imo circumcision is a great example of people being fine with absolutely absurd things simply because they've been normalized.

The issue basically boils down to: it's not something that makes any impact that any guy can recognize, but whatever legit reasons there may be for circumcision, 99.9% of the time it's performed entirely for irrational religious reasons. And that's dumb.

Most people are able to hold both circumcision and 'FGM' as you put it in their head and react to both accordingly. But circumcision is the 'All Lives Matter' of this issue. "Nigerian girls are subject to horrific butchering as they reach adolescence, removing the clitoris to discourage sexual pleasure and other behavior perceived as wanton." "BOYS GET THEIR DICKS CUT UP TOO" Both you and TheBatlord are right though, circumcision has been normalized over several thousand years. If I were an alien observing this behavior, it would baffle me. But on the list of issues we should address? Toward the bottom. Let's get to that after illiteracy, poverty, hunger, access to clean drinking water, malaria vaccination, stable government, contract law, etc. etc. etc.

If those words make you feel that way, fine, but I see it as an accurate descriptor so don't pin your perception of it on me.
Ja I'm aware that male circumcision is often used as a contrarian "gotcha" point but don't let that delegitimize the entire concept. If anything, the idea that we can't try to solve smaller and larger issues at the same time is a silencing tactic in itself.
