Somewhat, but I'm also open to them expressing their religious views in a way that doesn't reject humanism and makes me think that their version of religion hasn't supplanted their moral beliefs but encouraged them to be passionate about them. I'm far more contemptuous of people who specifically call themselves spiritual. That never ends up not being stupid.

Unfortunately the spiritual crowd represents a significant portion of the religious but not hardcore about it crowd.

Don't get me wrong though most atheists are twats as well.

The progressive religious person I know just cherry picks parts of the bible to coincide with being progressive.

They also used to believe in The Secret.

If you need proof, Kanye used to be progressive until be decided to be ultra Christian.

Booom, debate ended.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

What I'm saying is just patently true. There are Christians who argue the Bible isn't against homosexuality, for example. I like them. They're just wrong, though.

You can but then once you start questioning the accuracy of the book you get into the question of did Jesus really die for your sins or is it all a big metaphor. Which, at that point you're hardly even Christian. You just identify with it culturally, like I said

The vast majority of moderates actually accept the book was divinely inspired and come up with other convoluted rationalizations for why the text doesn't mean what it clearly says.

It's not the entire point though. There is an ideological component whether you like it or not. The term dogma literally comes from blind faith in certain ideleogical suppositions ordained by the church.

Obviously you can always split a religion into sects but there's still a common ideological core the sects share in common. Otherwise they aren't sects of one religion but entirely different religions.

So let's say you pray to a holy banana tree and you think Jesus was a liar but you call yourself a Christian. For all intents and purposes, you're not one and no fellow Christians will recognize you as such. In detaching the word from any inherent belief structure you render it meaningless.
