When have I ever called myself a scholar? And it's true: they cannot coexist.

Explain yourself then, because while tensions have and do exist, we can teach everyone the lyrics to Kumbaya and coexistence is possible. I mentioned the scholar thing because you always bring up how you only surround yourself with educated people or something like that.

Educated does not equal scholar. In my experience, the opposite is true.

As for me, I can coexist with Muslims. The colleague I get along best with and have the most meaningful interactions with is a Muslim.

But in the aggregate, it's not going to happen. The worldviews are too different, too extreme, to ever coexist. Coexistence can only happen if they become nominal religions.

Well yeah, the ultimate answer is for everyone to discard this silly religious nonsense and become secular. Then everybody will be able to get along. But until then...

As someone who isolates yourself from other people quite a bit, wouldn't you say that it's easy to coexist in a culture when nobody intrudes on your own? It's very easy, and if the existence of another religion or culture threatens your own, then it wasn't very sturdy to begin with.

There was an Islam that sprung up from a warzone (much like Muhammad was late in his life when he preached what would later become hadiths) that has some very extremist take on things as well, but we've seen that before in religions that by and large get on well with atheists and such these days. I'm more optimistic than you and along with that, I take my media with a whole pound of salt (not to say that you don't, but it kind of reads like that).

As far as it is within my power, I live at peace with all men. But there are simply far too many intolerant people out there in both religions for them to coexist.

Mass genocide time! They'll either be subversive and do it through a virus or they'll be obvious and turn it into a Holocaust-esque reality show. I, for one, am excited.

I could be wrong about this, but I think the greatest genocides have occurred at the hands of secular powers, not religious ones.

They don't seem to have a word for it in the bible. Rather they describe it other words (something like "take by force").

It's condemned a little bit. You have to pay the father of your victim and marry the victim. The problem is that it completely ignores the perspective of the victim because women don't really have a say, in general, in the bible.

I really have no idea about that in my brain but my heart has trouble believing that.
