My 86 year old mother worked her entire adult life and paid her taxes. She now survives off of her SS and Medicare benefits. You have a problem with that?

RoxyRollah 05-30-2016 11:28 AM

No I do not and I should hope the money that I write the govement in check should go to your mother. I am the type of woman that sends 5 bucks to the little old lady in a ****in letter when her sob story hits the ****ing news. Not because 5 bucks is a large sum because it's all I can afford, and I genuinely give a **** about my fellow man. I CAN'T HARDLY FEED MYSELF. WHY ARE THEY TAKING 100 bucks outta my check every two weeks. Man and Im a manager no....this is wrong.

I don't have a problem with people who paid into into it getting exactly what they paid. No more. I definitely have a problem with SS being put in the general fund, and that it has no opt out clause. It would work better if it functioned like a 401K where an individual wouldn't be able to get at that money until retirement anyway. That way it's in the person's name, not the government's coffers. But we didn't have 401Ks when that whole system was set up. SS was never meant to be the sole support in retirement, either. I'm sure your mother has other means than just SS.

Frownland 05-30-2016 11:34 AM

You need to do some reading before spouting off.

History of the Income Tax in the United States

The US population has more than tripled since 1913. And defense and infrastructure costs have risen exponentially. Defense spending in 1913 was $427 million dollars. In 2010 it was $847 billion. That's just about a 2000% increase.

RoxyRollah 05-30-2016 11:36 AM

BRO no matter how much reading I do it's not gonna change my mind on income taxes being theft. INCOME TAXES. I didn't say state taxes land taxes and all that. That's taxing me for ****ing working and being a productive member of society.

Yes, she relies solely on SS to get by.

Well, in another 30 years or so something tells me you'll be happy to have that stolen money coming back to you in monthly checks from the big bad government. And them helping to pay your medical expenses as you get older.

And Momma Vista is doing fine. Me and my two sisters make sure of that.

I bet she needs a menu change from all that chef boyardee. ;)

Bro there aren't enough people to counterbalance but the good people who sit back and do nothing can over power a tyrannical government that lies, to them steals from them, and tries to kill them. I want to live in a world where no one is hungry or poor when there is more then enough, but people are people and the good hearted ones should really be less lazy and more organized and maybe just maybe we could do away with the unnecessary taxes.

Frownland 05-30-2016 11:49 AM

Why are they unnecessary? You've mentioned it but haven't quite explained that part.

RoxyRollah 05-30-2016 11:59 AM

Lol that's what taxes are. Everybody contributes to fund things like social security, infrastructure, government workers, etc. Budgets on the federal, state, and local level are all open to the public by law. Do a little research on them and it will tell you quite plainly where taxes are distributed. Now go write a check.

You keep saying this. Again, what about all of the people who won't be willing to write a check? The system would implode. It has to mandatory. Has to.

Think about the tea party revolt a few years back. Imagine how many of those folks, who given the chance at the time, would have simply stopped writing checks to the government. Our economy and infrastructure would have been destroyed with a matter of weeks. And we'd probably still be in the throes of a massive recession with a stock market completely tanked.

Roxy, stop saying 1935. That's incorrect. The 16th Amendment, which made the income tax the law of the land, was passed in 1913. See, this is what I'm talking about. I've already pointed out that you're wrong on this one little thing, and yet you're still spouting it. If you can't get that one little detail correct, then why should we, or you for that matter, believe that your arguments are built on logically solid ground? How do we know that all of the information that you have built your political stances on are not likewise built on lazily researched bunk?

Since you are single you can claim either 0 or 1 as a filing status. 0 means you get a bit more in each paycheck but most likely nothing back at the end of the year. If you claim 1 they will take more taxes out each pay period but you'll most likely get a refund from the IRS.

Quote:

The US federal government imposed the first personal income tax, on August 5, 1861, to help pay for its war effort in the American Civil War - (3% of all incomes over US$800) (equivalent to $21,070 in 2015).[11][verification needed] This tax was repealed and replaced by another income tax in 1862.[12][verification needed] It was only in 1894 that the first peacetime income tax was passed through the Wilson-Gorman tariff. The rate was 2% on income over $4000 (equivalent to $109,400 in 2015), which meant fewer than 10% of households would pay any. The purpose of the income tax was to make up for revenue that would be lost by tariff reductions.

In 1913, the Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution made the income tax a permanent fixture in the U.S. tax system. In fiscal year 1918, annual internal revenue collections for the first time passed the billion-dollar mark, rising to $5.4 billion by 1920.

The Batlord 05-30-2016 12:41 PM

Roxy, I'm trying to get you to understand that the income tax was not put into effect in 1935. Can you just accept that fact and start saying 1913?

Funny, I'm watching the Americans which is set in the early 80's and remembering a lot about the Reagan years. It's crazy how he's held in such high regard to this day when as more years go by you realize the guy's tenure resulted in a lot of really bad stuff for this country.

- He cut taxes for the rich but increased them for the middle class.
- He tripled the national debt.
- Contra-gate.
- He funded cash and weapons to Islamic terrorist groups including Bin Laden.
- Unemployment soured during his time in office. The rich got richer and everyone else suffered for it.
- His administration basically ignored AIDS and helped it become an epidemic.
- He gave amnesty to over 3 million undocumented immigrants so the rich could hire cheap labor.
- He attacked unions every chance he got. Remember how he fired about 12,000 air traffic controllers because they were striking for fair wages?
- He raided SS which resulted in SS rates being raised by large levels.
- He fostered the whole "Greed is Good" mentality of Wall Street and Big Banking.

If you mean leaving these things in the hands of corporations, no. A corporation is no different from the federal government. What I mean is private, as in keeping things in the hands of individuals and small communities (like taking care of your neighbors, not welfare).
