If anyone is confused about why I objected to D McC's post, let me spell out my thinking in detail:-

i) it's a generally agreed principle in debate that you can attack ideas but not people. First red flag in this post = it's about Neapolitan, not his debating points:
ii) another principle about debate is that you should distinguish between opinion and fact, and not state the former as the latter. Unless DMcC has specific knowledge of what Neapolitan cares about, he should have made clear that this was unfounded guesswork on his part:
iii) the expression "goofy nonsense" is a way to dismiss someone's ideas without analysis. To say that Neapolitan only cares about goofy nonsense is a personal insult without provocation, argument or evidence as far as I can see. The words "right wing" and "Evangelical" are neutral descriptors, not as Frownland seems to suggest, the basis of my complaint.

I don't really see the cultural influence/mixing problem. Generally in cultural exchange people pick the good things I think. It's not like people in comparatively free countries are gonna be like 'hey that sharia law sounds pretty cool, let's try that'

I try to avoid reading mb's political threads tbh especially if I see other mods are posting in then because I figure they'll do their part to keep things civil, so thanks to Lisna for reporting the post so I could see that frown is indeed a useless mod.
