I just find it hilarious that the British established themselves as a relevant culture by invading other countries and stealing everything they liked, to the point where something as foreign as tea became a huge cultural staple for them, and now they suddenly get the shivers whenever a brown dude walks by
Goofy ass limeys couldn't even figure out how to make food with flavor until the Indians showed them how it was done

Sure, laugh it up at the Brits who are currently tying themselves in knots over Brexit, but don't blame them for what is a universal principal of trade and conquest: we wanted the product, not the guys who produced it, as does every other trading nation.

Well, there's an awful lot in Brit history that is impossible to defend morally, but I'd like to point out two things about slavery in Africa:
i) in the 1890s Britain was in campaigning against the African slave trade, which was still being conducted by the Arab nations. ii) in the 1960s Britain supervised peaceful transitions to independence for a bunch of former colonies iii) for decades Britain had sanctions against S Africa in protest against the aparteid regime of that country Like any colonial power, the Brits did many evil things, but some of it was tempered with a moral conscience too. As Gandhi said during his struggles for the independence of India, "When I go on hunger strike, it's an effective negotiating tool, but only because the British are fundamentally decent."

British law. British taxes. British customs. Traditional buildings torn down to make way for British embassies, hotels, restaurants, etc. British culture became what it is today by interacting with those other cultures. Trying to seal off modern British culture in a bubble, as if it's reached some point of perfection and can only go downhill from here, is not only ultimately pointless, it will also be incredibly damaging for them in the long run. Britain is an island with almost no natural resources, and a laughable economy. The thing that keeps them in a position of power is their pool of human resources. Limiting said pool in any way is a terrible decision for them. For every Muslim that throws rocks at abortion clinics, ten of them assimilate and get jobs, higher educations, contribute to their community, become skilled workers, doctors, scientists, etc. When you start kicking people out based on their former nationality, you alienate the whole world, and ultimately force international talent to turn to more enlightened nations than your own. Why would a renowned foreign scientist move to a country that has made it clear that they don't want anybody who was born in the "wrong" country to enter? Closing off borders has never made a country stronger. Only weaker. It has never kept a culture "pure", as if cultures are ever even "pure" to begin with. Isolationism doesn't work. It doesn't work culturally. It doesn't work economically. Whether we're talking about them stopping immigration or just breaking off from the EU, the conclusion is obvious.

Most people just want Immigration to be somewhat controlled and limited, not to isolate themselves completely.
There's nothing wrong with that sentiment and calling everyone a Nazi is dumb, uncalled for and only strengthens the political right.
