Because we're fine with it. We're fine without any external affirmation.

But is it just cause by the time you realized that it wasn't necessarily your #1 choice of where to live that you'd already been there so long that you were used to it? Or is there some bigger reason that makes you want to live in Japan more than anywhere else?

I like how he is so polite during it. Like a bad comedy sketch gone wrong. Did he not expect people to disagree with him at all ?

My personal favorite is this one (from days of yore)

Where did this guy go? He made sense.

I just wanted to state, so I do not have to quote statments again, that there is nothing wrong with nationalism. Pride in one's country is a good thing. What I think is wrong is when you begin defining who is a member of your country by how long they have been there, where their parents are from, religion, persuasion, etc. and what they have to represent in order for them to consider themselves to be a member of your country. No one has the right to judge you and define who you are.

For those who seemed to toot their countries as superior to others due to freedoms they enjoy and then making themselves seem more superior because they get to enjoy these freedoms...that is also wrong. Our crap all smells the same in the end and because you were lucky enough to be born into a country or immigrated to a country which enjoys these freedoms, does not make you better than others. I adore my country. It has many faults but also many good qualities. But in no way am I better than a person from a country that does not enjoy as many freedoms.

There is no way denying that the recent immigration wave from Syria fueled the fire for Brexit. It is affecting many countries. I wish that we could just take all the money poured into the countries the immigrants came from rather than just continously bandaging the situation. Freeze the bankaccounts of those countries bankrolling the groups messing up these countries and just let it stop. But people don't like taking on bullies, it is easier to just bandage the weak and nod and accept.

Do I need to re-qoute my previous post for you? I think you should re-read it.

^ A lot of sensible ideas here, Lilja. I especially like the idea of finding an alternative to the "bandaging" that you mention. It's certainly true that prevention is better than cure...

Your Boris Johnson clip was a real surprise to me - well researched!
Things like that will be a real embarrassment to him now, if he is capable of embarrassment. Unfortunately he is a man rather short on integrity:-

I was browsing through it while talking to my mom back east. It's her 86th birthday today. Still sharp as a tack. God love her.
