Yes, two years is the legally-set deadline for a country extracting itself from the EU; although it's never been done before, it's obviously going to be a complicated process.

DJ, on the other hand seems to be blinded by a malice that he declared quite openly when he joined this thread, ("I want them to suffer.") What's worse is that his malice seems to be motivated by an ignorance about the British voter and the history of British multi-culturalism. London is rightly known as a cosmopolitan city, and has always been host to migrants from around the world. As DJ is obsessing about Muslims, I'd like to focus on mosques for a minute:- Woking Mosque: This charming building was built in 1889, "one of the first mosques in Western Europe." Please notice the absence of heavy security or graffiti. This is not some embattled enclave in a country of racists; it's a pleasant parkland in a tolerant country. London Central Mosque: Quote:

(i) a desire to be free of standards and restrictions imposed by the EU (ii) a desire to be free of the perceived cost of EU membership. (UK after all is one of the biggest cash contributing members) (iii) a desire to decide for themselves how many people are allowed into their country- rather like they do in the USA, I believe. Is that racist too?

Refer to the rest of my post about why I tossed out the word "racist". I also should have said it's more a prejudice issue but I don't even feel like going into that right now. I have to go ATVing my vacation is almost over.

Dj. There is nothing wrong with Nationalism.Patriotism.
Stop making it all about Muslims. You have no idea the hearts of these ppl and there are fer sure racisits on both sides. But just stop it. Just stop it. I know a very prominent member here voted to leave...He texts me every morning.....Knows I speak Arabic and am black what a ****ing racisit he is....I mean my god. The Sjw narrative is corrosive to your brain cells.

I do see that the vote for the leave seems to have been driven alot by nationalism to the point of isolationism. Perhaps I am wrong in this and those in the UK can better explain why it went the way it did. I do think the latest immigration/refugee taking in figures really drove the vote. Which in the end was still silly as my country and Germany took in a lot more than the UK did. But then that is my point as I rant on my soapbox |

Thanks for your support, Roxy and good luck shopping for British products!
OK, dj, I know you apologised for your initial remark, so perhaps I shouldn't have brought it up. I still feel that you've bought yourself a pot of paint with a specific colour and are determined to paint the British voter with it, evidence or no evidence, but I've always liked you as a poster and would prefer to move on too. As mordwyr says, I also hope you enjoy ATVing - my disadvantage is that I have no idea what ATVing is. Do you need good weather -or police permission- to do it !? A pedantic point about statistics:- Perhaps because the referendum was a simple Yes/No question, everyone, from David Cameron to the media are talking about how "the British people have spoken". In fact, the margin in favor of Leave was pretty small. They had precisely 1,269,501 more votes. If half of that number had chosen to vote for Remain, then the result would've been an exact draw. If we think of it that way, it means that the fate of Britain has actually been decided by about 630 thousand people. That's about the size of a small town, and is a fraction of the electorate, so to everyone I would advise caution about blanket statements about "the Brits this and the Brits that..." Quote:

This is true but I'm not so sure it will happen. Denmark and the Netherlands are too close to the Germansphere.
Immigration was obviously the key factor in this vote, and it was the old working class labour vote that ensured that the Brexit side won. and although I concede that the UK will now have more control over its borders, Brexit does not mean that mass immigration will end. Currently you have a labour party controlled by middle & upper class professionals who prescribe to the ideology of multiculturalism who would like to see UK cities transformed into London, and right now they're really pissed off! Think about it, over 200 plus labour party members campaigned for the UK to stay within Brexit and the traditional working class vote just gave them the biggiest Fu(k you on the planet! Never has there been a bigger political disconnect between a political party and its voters. One things for sure, the Blairites are going to be out for blood, and they aren't going to rest until they have Jeremy Corbyn's head on a platter. |
