College Campuses - A War on Free-Speech and Diversity of Opinion?

If a black kid who could give a **** about reading how Christopher Columbus gloriously discovered America and then ushered in slavery, they might actually take note of a class or program that would have practical applications for them getting a skilled labor position that might actually get them out of poverty. Bring back shop class and ****, and give the same kind of support for people trying to learn a trade as is given to kids applying to college.

Schools need to be run on the local level with very little to no outside interference. In America, schools that are at or close to 100% black need to be run by that local black community. The white suburban liberal approach to education and discipline that works fine in rich suburbs fails miserably in poor black communities. Black classrooms are often dysfunctional because of this phenomenon. There's no doubt that black elders want to keep their kids in school and break the school to prison pipeline. But that needs to be enforced with strong aggressive discipline up front. They need and want teachers who can be bad ass and keep a structured classroom environment intact. They don't want the classrooms to become dysfunctional and for the teacher to deal with the problem AFTER it occurs with office referrals that lead to suspension and can add up to alternative placement or expulsions. The Catch-22 is that doing what it takes to be the Alpha in inner city Baltimore will get you fired in the culture defined by white suburbia. So let blacks run their own schools their own way. That's what I say. Keep whitey out of it.

Oh great, now half the country is being taught that Creationism is fact and evolution is "just a theory".

Yeah I here ya. Local control isn't perfect and there would be a lot of that. It's a powerful retort but I think it would be a bitter pill worth swallowing. Once they got teachers in there who could get them to shut up and read they might end up with the critical thinking skills to understand things like gravity and evolution. As it is now, undereducated people believe in creationism and not evolution anyway.

Some people would be taught critical thinking and some people would be reciting the Bible. Quite possibly the dumb would actually get dumber, since they were being taught by people who already believed dumb things (and not just religious things).

And by the way, I'm with you on diversifying the curriculum to include things like shop and mechanics money management and so on but right now that doesn't matter because the worst schools are so dysfunctional nothing at all can be taught.

I think that's happening already. Education is so full of pseudoscience it's unbelievable. Public school teachers are taught all sorts of crackpot bull**** teaching techniques that they claim is backed by "data" but is in fact completely unscientific.
